So if you haven’t heard footage has come out from the Batman v Superman set showing a scene being filmed of Bruce’s parents getting shot. Yes his origin is going to be retold, but no that’s no reason to freak out. So many people are acting like bloody Snyder is at it again, ruining all these superhero movies, but just relax. Because honestly if they didn’t include the iconic scene of Batman’s parents being shot people would have been pissed, and now that we know they are including it, people are pissed. Either way the internet is full of pissed off people, but if you think about it, it only makes sense to include the scene.
I saw a lot of comments online about the fact that everyone knows Batman origins. Everyone knows Bruce Wayne’s parents got shot in an alley way. But that’s simply not true. I have a lot of friends, who are casual movie watchers, just like the average person. Yeah they have watched the Dark Knight Trilogy, some of them have watched the original Batman movies (not many though), but can they tell you exactly how Batman became Batman? No they can’t. They don’t really remember, they watched Batman Begins one time and that was it. They’re not comic readers, they don’t watch the animated TV shows or Gotham. They watched a few Batman movies one time and that was it. So maybe they vaguely remember what happened to his parents, but it isn’t ingrained in their brains.
It’s easy for us to say, ‘of course everyone knows how Batman’s parents died’ because we surround ourselves in this world, but not everybody does. And you also have to remember, there’s going to be a whole new generation of people whose first Batman movie will be Batman v Superman. This is the one they are going to remember, this will be their first contact. So yeah it is important to include Bruce’s origins, because not everyone knows it that well, and not everyone has seen it before.
And really it’s probably only going to be a one minute flashback and then that’s it. Does it really matter if they take a couple minutes out of what’s probably going to be a 2.5 hour long film to show a scene of Bruce’s parents dying? I sure don’t think so. His parents dying is such an integral part of the character, this is a new Batman we’re seeing, if we’re supposed to believe he is Batman, then we need to see at least a flashback of his origin.
Anyways I just wanted to quickly say that, because it’s really annoying seeing people freak out about every single detail that comes out about this film. So what do you think? Do you disagree, and think we don’t need to see Batman’s parents die? Let me know!
